How do I get music on my blog? In order for this to work you must have a wordpress blog with an mp3 player plugin – download. If you’ve sign up with WordPress, you should already have it after sign up.
Sample tunes. (from PM-Vibes sample, 04:35) color:BDB76B, 808000
Watch tutorial, click play. The video will break up, try your best at them.
Step 1) In the editor box, click html.
Step 2) Type in like shown below.
Step 3) Click save.
Step 4) Go preview your new saved page. You should see a play button that loads and play music after a second or so of being clicked.
Here is the color picker or a color chart.
Here is a sample code:

FAQs:
Where do I get my mp3 links?
Get it from an mp3 public search engine (where the music isn’t copyright or allowed under fair use) or upload your mp3 to a server where you can host it. Then link the location of your mp3 to your mp3 player. I may do another writeup on how to host your mp3s if you want to start your own free radio station. Here is the link – click here.
Where do I insert my mp3 link?
Insert where the red text are:
Where is the link to get colors code?
I got from Nye’s site, this is the link to get different colors.
I click play and there is no sound?
The url is wrong.
I keep getting a bunch of garbled text but no mp3 player?
Make sure you leave a space after the word audio, like this:
or make sure you leave a colon after the word audio, like this:
Why are my Mp3 player buttons are all black?
Because the mp3 plugin in your wordpress blog doesn’t support certain colors. In that case, try to use colors that works.
I have a black background blog page and the white bar is showing next to the play button. How do I set the background to black?
Use the code bgcolor, example:
How can I add text in the player? Why isn’t the artist name and song name on my Mp3 player?
Normally, for the player to show the title and artist, the information must be encoded into your mp3 file as ID3 tags. But this won’t work if you are using WordPress under WordPress’s domain. The WordPress team modified the flash player’s code which somehow disable this feature, intentionally or accidentally. You’ll probably better off getting your own webspace with a WordPress and the mp3 player plugin.
The player won’t show up. I only see just the code itself. It’s named correctly, with no spaces, all lowercase, and the mp3 tag at the end.
One thing that might be causing the problem is if you are pasting it into the visual editor. You need to past it into the code (html) editor.
Error opening file… problems.
If there is an “error opening file…” message after clicking the play button then the file is most likely caused by a rejected request, a bad url, bad code or a url that won’t allow hot linking. Another words, if you can’t play that mp3 url on your webpage, your Windows Media player or other Mp3 streaming player then that url doesn’t support hot linking. It’ll only supports downloading from that particular website but not hot linking. The solution is to move on to another hosting site that allows hot linking.
Buffering… while opening file problems.
The buffering message will show up if the url of the file is wrong or the mp3’s server is down. Make sure the url is correct by checking to see if the file can download. Try right click save file (link) as.
Can I put more than one song in a single player?
Yes. Step 1) Click html. Step 2) Start typing your desired code. Step 3) Save and preview.
I tried everything and my blog doesn’t show an MP3 button?
You need to install the player plugin into your wordpress. Here’s a website that explains that. http://www.ourmedia.org/node/328450
I don’t have a wordpress blog.
See this tutorial to add an audio player to a nonWordPress blog.

Looks great Sim, I am going to have to right this all down…
[…] November 2nd, 2007 in Music I recently learned this from Sim’s Blog on How to embed mp3 player in your blog, great instruction as always. This is the link to get different […]
Thanks Sim, you are the best 🙂
Thanks. I hope you guys think it was not too hard to follow. My new video on “how to host your mp3” is slower and less dizzy. 😉
Is this possible to use if I only update my posts through WordPress’s interface and not through softwares like Macromedia?
Yes. Just upload an mp3 file somewhere on the internet (like mediamax) and link to it like this [audio ] with the address inside. Like this:
[audio http://www.mediamax.com/
bding817/Hosted/Podcasts/jan132008masteraudio.mp3]
The player works with files that are encoded at 44.1kHz.
Hi Sim. I found your tutorial very interesting. everything’s clear but one… How can I add track text (artist – song) in the player?
Normally, for the player to show the title and artist, the information must be encoded into your mp3 file as ID3 tags. But this won’t work as long as you’re on WordPress domain.
Does this player work with WP 2.5.1 because I get an ‘error opening file’ everytime, and I have double checked everything.
Sure would be good to get this great player working on my site.
Ignore my previous post please. I have sorted it. 🙂
Great player, well cool.
David
wow……
Thanks Sim, you are the best
dear Sim,
i’m Still struggle with it. may i know which site i can down load my MP3 File, and i have to copy the URL or the web site? for me, the player is in my blog, but couldn’t play with sound. Need help frm you dear sim.
Beatrice
Here is the standard sound test url for the mp3 player:
[audio src="http://www.1pixelout.net/audio/adbusters.mp3" /]
Here is a bunch of random music I’d grabbed from ODEO:
[audio src="http://odeo.com/show/1428091/4/download/AfterTheRain.mp3" /]
[audio src="http://odeo.com/show/11127223/4/download/ThisLife_.mp3" /]
[audio src="http://media.odeo.com/9/2/3/Forever.mp3" /]
[audio src="http://odeo.com/show/12670633/4/download/YinNiYuWoTongXing.mp3" /]
This is the site that allows embedding that I got them from:
http://odeo.com/search/channels?page=4&query=music
Here’s how to get the mp3 links from that site. First click on the music you want to listen to. Click play and make sure you hear music or else it’s a dead link. Click on “Embed” below the player. Scroll down and right where it says “mp3_url’:'” there is an Mp3 link after that. Copy that. It should look something like this mp3_url’:’http://odeo.com//2163006/bassEffect2.mp3. Copy the http://odeo.com//2163006/bassEffect2.mp3
Dear Sim,
May I know where u store ur mp3 which can direct link? Tks
You can store it at Odeo or mediamax and link it. After you sign-up and have your music playing. You then click on “Embed” below the Odeo player. Scroll down and right where it says “mp3_url’:’” there is an Mp3 link after that. Copy that. It should look something like this mp3_url’:’http://odeo.com//2163006/bassEffect2.mp3. Copy the http://odeo.com//2163006/bassEffect2.mp3
here da code!
Sim You’re freakin Awesome! Thanks so much for making this very clear.
Oh and I guess you don’t need the plugins now for wordpress.com or at least it doesn’t need to be installed. I did it just like you said:
[audio http://mymp3urlgoeshere ]
I uploaded to a free hosting site. I’ll keep it there until I get my own server.
Thanks again SIM!
problem.
Thanks Sim, I’ve used this tips since a long time ago but now all of my mp3 player disappeared from the post.
I’m using Mozilla FF 3.0.1
any help?
thanks in advance
I see them just fine. Try clearing your browser cache or make sure there is sufficient computer memory. Or test them on another browser.
Thanks Sim, I have cleared my browser cache. It seems the problem caused by Mozilla FireFox 3 incompatibility. No problem with other browsers including FireFox 2.
Still dont know how to display this player on FireFox 3, my Flash player 9,0,124,0 installed
hi again, I know the problem was caused by Adblock in my FireFox 3 incorrectly blocks the flash content.
Disable this add-ons will display the audio player.
thanks
Jawa, I had the same problem with my player, someone recently suggested Adblock to me, thanks now I know why my wouldn’t play also.
I don’t like the Adblock features, I think it’s more annoying than helping because it’d block certain things but not Google Ads, and to me Google Ads are the annoying one.
Im havin some problems. I get the player to work and first time when I add a song I can listen to it (added through different sites such as speedyshare.com) but as sson as i close the window and visit my blog anew, well then it just says “error opening file”. Ans also at Odeo, you cant´t upload songs right? And I cant´t anyways find that URL in the embed code. It only looks like this:
Im in real need of help!:S
Thanks in advance!
i have same problem as latenightshow…please help when you have figured it out! double checked all…still “error opening file”
thank you i success on my blogspot.
http://www.tdxjakiroprofile.blogspot.com
latenightshow, If there is an error opening file message after clicking the play button, when it worked before it’s most likely caused by a url that won’t permit hot linking. Another words, if you can’t play that mp3 url on another browser like Firefox or Internet Explorer then that url doesn’t support hot linking. It only supports downloading but not hot linking. So what you actually see is the mp3 is cache on your browser until you close it. The solution is to move on to another hosting site that allows hot linking. I think you can upload to Odeo and play it back on your WordPress but I havent tried it.
genius!
Thanks for the info. I found it very helpful. However, I could never get it to work…. Which is probably due to the latest WP update.
I noticed alot of people in this WordPress Support thread talking about how it didn’t work after the lastest update.
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/232472
So, after reading over that thread, I found the same plugin here at this link below:
http://wpaudioplayer.com/
After installing and activating that plugin, it started to work great. Not sure if any of your readers are still having issues with embedding an mp3 player, but hopefully this will help. Thanks for the insight..
This was such a big help!! Thank you so much for this post!!
Thank you! I did it!
Good ! jobs 🙂
thanks a bunch!
I have one problem though. I would like to use a black background but when I try to use bg=0x000000 I still get white. Is bg the proper code to change this?
thanks a bunch!
I have one problem though…
When using the bg=0x000000 code to get a black background, it still shows up as white. Is bg the proper tag for background in this case>
thanks, again.
Funny. Everything I have said said to do [audio=url.mp3], and I’ve used it that way a-plenty.
